Which Haunted Hotel Character Are You?

Welcome to the Undervale. Try not to check out early.

You’ve checked into the Undervale, and something’s already watching from the hallway. Haunted Hotel is full of ghosts with baggage, demons with feelings, and one overworked mom trying to keep it all together. This quiz asks: if you lived there, who would you be? Maybe you’re Katherine Freeling, the reluctant caretaker holding chaos by the throat. Or Nathan, the ghost who means well but keeps making it worse. You could also be Ben, Esther, or even Stabby Paul But hopefully you're Abaddon. Who wouldn't want to be Abaddon?

But this quiz is about more than just which characters you like. It's about the ones who truly match your personality. It's about how you relate to family, and how you handle love, loss, grief, and purpose. Netflix's Haunted Hotel animated show is so special because it's demonically funny while still hitting us right in our emotional hearts at the absolute best (worst?) times. But enough about why I love this show. Let's find out what the Undervale has in store for you.

All Quiz Questions

You check into a real-life haunted hotel for the weekend. What do you do first?

Loudly proclaim that ghosts don't exist and then proceed to get horribly haunted.

Respectfully introduce yourself to any ghosts that may be around. Maybe bring them a gift.

Leave. Immediately. No thank you.

Go exploring and touch something cursed just to see if something happens.

Complain about the decor and demand a room with better lighting for your ghost hunter vlog.

Give me a hot take:

Katherine shouldn't have broken up with the ghost room. It was the first time she was actually treated right!

It's insane that the Haunted Hotel business is failing. They would be rolling in money if they leaned in harder.

Being a ghost seems kind of...good? Voice commands, TV, and a hotel filled with all your friends and family...Nathan's living better than most of us.

Abaddon has never done anything wrong, and nothing you can say will convince me otherwise. He is a perfect little demon.

If I had access to a ghostly wardrobe that created single-emotion copies of myself, I would absolutely use it.

Patrick Pumpkin didn't get nearly enough screen time, and it's criminal that he was immediately killed off.

Choose a family tradition that would mean the most to you.

Sunday dinners that bring the whole family together, even if just for an hour.

Hiking trips, camping, and general good times in nature.

Game nights where it’s all fun until someone flips the board and takes it too personally.

Gossiping about all of your relatives that you dislike.

Late-night deep talks that don't seem like they should fix anything but somehow do anyway.

You’ve become a ghost in the Haunted Hotel. What’s your “schtick”?

You dramatically reenact your death every night.

You politely haunt guests into leaving five-star reviews and tipping well.

You pop out of walls at random to give people unsolicited life advice, then vanish mid-conversation.

You rearrange furniture just enough to throw people off.

You demand that every guest worship you and pay their respects to your greatness... or else.

You hover over guests’ shoulders while they watch TV.

How do you handle emotional messes?

Fix everyone else’s problems first, then quietly fall apart later.

Turn it into a joke and hope laughter makes it better.

Panic, cry for a while, then get to work fixing everything.

Overthink and spiral until it’s so much worse.

Complain relentlessly while you wait for other people to fix things

Who is your favorite character, and why is it Abaddon?

Abaddon. Because he lived the history of the world 100 times just to be with the people he loves.

Abaddon. He's an immortal demon trapped in a Victorian boy's body. There is nothing that's not funny about that.

Nathan. He's no Abaddon, but he's all heart.

Abaddon. He's just so much fun. Great writing, great voice acting, and total chaos bottled into one little gremlin.

Abaddon...isn't my favorite, but I am secure enough to acknowledge I am objectively wrong.

Choose a moment that hit a little too hard.

When Heather said she was Esther's friend, and Esther got heart eyes.

When we learned the real cause of Nathan's death.

"Shemon. Demon. Always be schemin." ...as Esther falls into lava.

When Katherine wrote the "things I like about my brother" email.

"I WANT. TO GO. IN. THE VENTS." – Abaddon

You get to have one ghost ability as a human. What do you pick?

Become immune to attacks. No one can hurt you.

Float through walls at will. Great for spying and convenience.

Be able to possess other people. Mmm....control.

No longer need to sleep.

Be able to fly.

These are all actual emails in Nathan’s inbox from the Ghost Hunters episode. Choose your favorite.

What do you love most about Haunted Hotel?

The aesthetic. A campy haunted hotel is peak comfort show material.

How it uses ghost and demon antics to deal with real issues around grief, love, and trauma. It shouldn't hit this hard, but it does.

It's the perfect mix of horror, humor, and heartbreak. It makes you laugh, then makes you cry.

The way it plays with common horror tropes and often twists or subverts them.

The depth of the characters. They have such rich backstories that are ripe for expansion in the second season.

Katherine Freeling

You carry the weight of everyone’s nonsense like it’s your job. And sometimes...it kind of is. Even when the world feels cursed, you still manage to keep it running because no one else will. You’re grounded, sarcastic, and secretly tender under all the exhaustion. People come to you for stability, but they have no idea how close you are to unraveling. You don’t haunt places. You fix them.

Nathan Freeling

You’re equal parts heart and chaos, trying to prove that being a mess doesn’t mean you don’t care. You crave connection and recognition, even if your timing is usually terrible. You dive into things headfirst, making up the plan as you go. There’s a strange optimism in how you handle disaster. It’s like you believe life’s worst moments might still turn out okay, and though it doesn't always feel like enough...that belief really does help.

Ben Freeling

You overthink everything and still end up in the strangest situations. You exist between worlds, too normal to fully embrace the weird, too weird to ignore it. People might underestimate you, but your quiet loyalty runs deep. You process change and chaos by watching it closely instead of running from it. You might be occasionally awkward, but it's only because you see and know more than most people ever will.

Esther Freeling

You’re curious to a fault, but that curiosity keeps you alive in places where most people would lose their minds. You don’t just accept the strange. You welcome it, decorate it, and make it your home. You’re intuitive, bright, and a little spooky in the best way. People think you’re fearless, but really you just refuse to let fear make your choices for you. You’re the kind of weird that makes other people feel safe being themselves.

Abaddon

Congratulations, you're the best character! You burn hot, fast, and unapologetically. Your emotions are too big for most rooms, and sometimes they scorch everything around you. But beneath the chaos there’s an ancient kind of sadness...the ache of wanting to to be seen. You love deeply, destroy accidentally, and rebuild in strange and beautiful ways. You’re the storm that reminds everyone what it's like to feel alive.

Stabby Paul

You run on pure impulse, like a chaos gremlin powered by bad ideas and good vibes. You rarely think twice because that would ruin the moment. People might call you unhinged, but you're really just no longer caged. You remind everyone that life’s better when you stop worrying about control and just enjoy the mess.

Annabelle

You live for attention but crave something real underneath it. Your charm is theatrical, your pain cinematic, and your nostalgia runs deeper than anyone could know. You’re dramatic in the way that only someone who’s been forgotten for ages can be. People might call you self-centered, but you just want your story to matter again. You’re the ghost of glitter and heartbreak, haunting your own highlight reel.

Aunt Rose

You’ve seen too much, tolerated too little, and honestly, you’re tired of everyone’s nonsense. Sure, maybe you criticize everyone incessantly...but doesn't that criticism help them grow? You’re brutally honest and allergic to sugarcoating. Under the grouchiness is someone who still wants to belong, even if you’d rather die than admit it. You’re the patron saint of tough love and bad moods.
